A weighty, heavy lamp cast from brass, Socket Occasional Lamp is designed to fit perfectly on the desk, shelf or a nook in the home that needs to be lit. The inserted socket is easily re- moved, so that – with or without a bulb – the lamp also functions as a paperweight. The lamp is inspired by Norm Architects’ recent work with geometric jewellery. “In our work, we aim for geometrical purity,” the designers explain. “We want to arrive at the maximum
expressivity with the minimum of expression. It’s not about designing less of product. It’s about soft, streamlined shapes that invite you to touch them.”
Norm Architects
A Scandinavian company through and through, Norm Architects are celebrated for their clean, minimalistic designs. Its founders Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen argue that minimalism is nothing new: “It has been the norm in many cultures all over the globe since the beginning of civilization. People have strived for material poverty as a way to inner luxury. Reduction and perfection have been the main goal for both craftsmen and inventors – because avoiding the irrelevant meant emphasising the important.”
The pursuit of purity, simplicity and timelessness is at the heart of everything undertaken by Norm.
Menu’s philosophy is simple. We want to make the world better, less complicated, a little bit nicer to wake up to. Collaborating with super-talented designers, we make objects to be treasured now… and forever.
